Material

Dzi beads are also known as "Sky Eye Beads". They are mainly produced in Tibet, eastern Tibet, Bhutan, Sikkim, Ladakh and other Himalayan areas. They are a rare gem.

The early natural Dzi beads were perfected by conch fossils. Later, due to the scarcity of fossils, the ancient Tibetans began to use nine-eyed stone shale containing jade and agate components to polish Dzi beads. It is recorded as "Nine-eyed Stone Dzi Beads" in the history books of Tibetan Secret Seven Treasures.

What exactly is a Dzi bead?

Some people call it a "gift from God", while others regard it as a "totem of faith". This mysterious bead that spans thousands of years is far more than just an inlaid agate.

In Tibetan, Dzi is a sacred object of Tibetan Buddhism, carrying the code for dialogue between people and gods.Its value lies not only in the preciousness of the material, but also in the cultural heritage and spiritual power it carries. Every Dzi bead is a witness to a period of history and a heritage of faith.

In Tibet, Dzi beads are the first gift given to babies when they are born, and are also amulets that travelers must wear. Herders even grind Dzi beads into powder and use them as medicine to pray for cure of diseases and longevity.

Spiritual symbol:

  • Container of spiritual beliefs

Tibetans believe that Dzi beads are the "spiritual eyes" left by gods in the world, which can purify the soul and resist disasters. Each totem is a metaphor for the energy of the universe:
- "Eye pattern": symbolizes wisdom and awakening, breaking through ignorance;
- "Lotus": implies purity and compassion, emerging from the mud without being stained;
- "Vase": represents abundance and perfection, bringing blessings and wealth.

  • Witness of the cycle of life

The "weathering pattern" and "cinnabar infiltration" of Dzi beads are traces carved by time and faith. Tibetans believe that those who wear Dzi beads are actually connected to the energy of practitioners of all generations, allowing life to continue in reincarnation.

  • Symbol of identity and practice

In Tibet, Dzi beads are the identity symbol of "nobles and eminent monks". A pure Dzi bead that has been passed down for thousands of years is often regarded as a treasure guarded by a family, or a witness to the monks' ascetic practice.

  • The condensation of natural power

The material of Dzi beads is taken from natural agate, and the ancient inlay and etching process requires the power of the sun, moon, minerals and fire. Tibetans believe that it condenses the spirituality of mountains and rivers and is the embodiment of "tears of the earth".
